Biota (ecology) - Biota is the plant and animal life of a region or area or geological period. The biota of the Earth is known as the biosphere.
Gradient analysis - Gradient analysis is an empirical analytical method used in plant community ecology to relate the abundances of various species in a plant community to various environmental gradients. These gradients are usually variables that are important in plant species distributions, and include temperature, water availability, light, and soil nutrients, or their closely correlated surrogates.
Foraging - Foraging just means looking for food (or, metaphorically, anything else). However, it has acquired an important technical meaning within the science of behavioral ecology where it refers to predator-prey interactions (note that in ecology, prey can be plant as well as animals).
